Frida, my all-time favourite painting.
I painted the huge original acrylic on canvas for a friend of mine’s Mexican themed engagement party – and while researching Frida Kahlo for the piece I became fascinated by her life. Not just as an artist or as a woman bucking modern beauty standards of the time, but as a person who lived just about her entire life in horrendous pain.
In fact after she was in a bus accident in her late teens and was confined to bed for months, is when she started painting. I too deal with my own painful chronic illness by immersing myself in my art.
I love Frida’s vulnerability in this piece that I painted from a black and white photograph. Original is acrylic on canvas.
