Colour Collection
This piece was part of a community art challenge started by UK artist Florence Lee, where artists all over the world painted from the same reference in a 2 week time period, in any medium they chose.
I chose to take just the face from the figure in the photo reference and then just half the face after that. In my semi-pop art style I lined her features in black and then ramped up colours, using a bright solid background and blue in her hair with lots of texture.
It was fascinating to see how she turned out with every artist participating choosing a different composition and style. All the pieces submitted will go into a zine, which will be amazing to see.
I called her Zuri as it is from African, Kiswahili origin meaning “good, beautiful”. Original is acrylic on paper.
