Be Kind 4 Art Print By Jodi McCauley

For the 4^th piece in my Be Kind series I chose the Alphonse Mucha lithograph “The Quill”, completed in 1899.  The painting in art nouveau style is actually one half of an artwork called “The Primrose and The Quill”.

The feather and leaves she holds is still there but I changed out her Grecian looking garment for a black and white gingham puff sleeve dress, blue hair in a messy swirly bun not unlike the original hair style, and of course a mask since this series commemorates life in 2021.  The head piece dropped down and became a large statement earring that has the words “Be Kind”, and the art nouveau background was simplified to a gold circle behind her head, and emphasised by a dark midnight blue background.

She is definitely my favourite of the Be Kind series.  Original is watercolour, gouache and ink on paper.
