Shona McLean
Shona started her career as a cartoonist and illustrator. During a one year stay in Sydney in the late 1970's she supplied cartoons to the Sydney Morning Herald and various other publications. Shona received the Australian Art Directors Award in 1980 for a Black and White Illustration and won the Wellington/Sydney Sister Cities Poster Competition Award in 1982 with a depiction of Oriental Parade, Wellington. Shona maintained a painting practice on and off throughout her life and also developed a range of ceramics, which sold through various outlets in New Zealand. Assisted by her husband, the ceramic business' became their main focus. They opened The Laughing Fish Studio in Nelson and sold ceramics full-time to the public until 2020. Shona has recently returned to her painting practice and is planning a series of originals and prints as her journey back to painting continues.
