Michael Rollo Mirfin

Born in the picturesque town of Nelson in 1953, I am a self-taught artist whose creative journey has been fuelled by a passion for art, ideas, books, comics, films, and history. This passion guided me to Wellington's School of Design, where my love for drawing, painting, and photography flourished.

After graduating, I ventured to Sydney, Australia, and delved into the world of retail advertising at David Jones, eventually transitioning to the esteemed Ogilvy & Mather Sydney as a visualiser, storyboard artist, and illustrator before becoming an art director.

Over my decade-long tenure in Australia, I explored various styles and subjects in my paintings, with a particular affinity for figurative and landscape themes.

The call of the East led me to Japan and eventually to Hong Kong, where I assumed a senior art director role at Dentsu Young & Rubicam.
My artistic pursuits continued, resulting in several solo exhibitions and collaborations on special projects with Dentsu in Japan and
Y&R in New York.

In 1997, I returned to New Zealand, showcasing my paintings in two exhibitions in Auckland and working as a freelance art director, illustrator, storyboard artist, and cartoonist. Today, I continue to draw and paint, weaving my artistic narrative into the present day.
