Deborah Hinde

Deborah lives and works from her home-based studio nestled between dairy farms in rural Waikato. After many years of working as a graphic designer/illustrator producing work for advertising agencies, publishers and manufacturers Deborah’s dream to illustrate picture books became a reality in 2003 when A Kiwi Night Before Christmas was published. Since then she has illustrated another 38 picture books for children and now publishes her own authored and illustrated stories.

Inspiration for these books and other illustration work comes not only from the animals and birds that wander through or inhabit her garden, but also from ideas generated through a self-imposed challenge of producing one small illustration each day.

Character and humour are strong themes in Deborah’s illustration work and she takes great delight in casting characters, designing their wardrobes and setting the stage for them.
